Over time we’ve seen more people join us in the fight against virgin plastic, but now our ambitions must move on to provoking a debate around the use of plastic full stop.
As manufacturers we believe we need to totally re-think plastic. How we make it, use it, re-use it and recycle it. Industry as a whole should take more responsibility, because using a durable material like plastic for a single use is systemically wrong.
If we can make a stand – so can everyone.
Since we first launched the Ocean Bottle bottle in 2014 we’ve sold 175,000 Ocean Bottles bottles reclaiming 5 tonnes of plastic.
That’s just the start of our journey.
We want to make a stand to end the use of virgin plastic.
In 2018 we’re replacing our entire washing-up liquid range with a new bottle made entirely from 100% recycled plastic (PCR).
Our ambition is that 2020 every single one of our bottles will be made from 100% recycled plastic (PCR) and we’ll start to introduce recycled plastic into our caps too. Not an easy feat.
By 2020 we’re committed to trialling the use of alternative biodegradable and bio-sourced packaging.
There is now greater awareness of the dangers of plastic than ever before, but still, not enough action is being taken. Our washing-up bottle is just a drop in ocean, but we hope it can be a catalyst for cleaning up our seas before it’s too late.
